Who is this course for?

The course has been developed for people wishing to enter the travel and tourism industry.

Entry requirements & Application

A minimum of 3 grade D and 2 grade E GCSEs, an interview and satisfactory reference are required for entry on to this course. If you have a record of achievement you should bring it with you. When we receive your application, you will be invited into the College on a particular date for an informal interview and an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy.

What will I learn?

The course has been designed in consultation with both representatives from the travel industry and colleges. It aims to cover areas that employers in the travel and tourism sector have identified as needing suitably qualified staff. You will enjoy a broad range of activities within the course such as visits, guest speakers and use of facilities both on and off site. You will study a variety of units such as Worldwide Travel and Tourism Destinations, Selling Skills for Travel and Tourism. You may also have the opportunity to study a language alongside the course.The Welsh Baccalaureate (or Welsh Bac) is a nationally recognised qualification aimed at improving the skills that employers and universities are looking for. Whilst completing your main course you will also study Wales, Europe, the World, Work Related Education and Personal and Social Education.

Assessment

Assessment will take a variety of forms such as written tests, multiple-choice tests (on-line) and practical assignments based on realistic scenarios.

On Completion Achievement / Progression

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to the EAL VRQ in Air Cabin Crewing and / or the Certificate in Airport Passenger Handling. Employers have stated that the course provides the skills, knowledge and experience that they require in prospective employees. The qualification would help you prepare for a range of jobs in such places as tour operators, airlines, travel agents, airports, tourist attractions and theme parks.
