Who is this course for?
This is a 1 year construction course aimed at 16 years and over. This course provides a Nationally recognised Qualification and will help you gain mulitple skills to an NVQ Level 1 equivalent standard.
Entry requirements & Application
Entry to the course is by interview including a Maths and English assessment. Applicants will need GCSE Grades G or above in 3 subjects or a minimum of Entry Level 3 in Literacy and Entry Level 3 in Numeracy in the assessment.
What will I learn?
The curriculum includes both academic and practical elements (see below) in construction disciplines, in order for you to gain a wide insight into the construction industry. This course is also supported by a Welsh Baccalaureate qualification as well as Key Skills at Level 1. These qualifications are sought after by employers. The academic studies will be supported by work experience and field trip activities designed to be fun and exciting.
Vocational areas that you will cover include: Bricklaying skills, Carpentry and Joinery skills, Painting and Decorating skills, Managing personal finances, Working in construction, Developing personal effectiveness, Health and Safety.
Assessment
All learners will have ongoing assessments which are internally set and marked by the College. Each learner will be given a construction project to complete within the year.
On Completion Achievement / Progression
This foundation qualification could allow you to progress onto a craft course at Level 1, a Modern Apprenticeship or the BTEC First Diploma in Construction.
