Who is this course for?
The Diploma in Hairdressing Level 1 is a one-year course. It is suitable if you wish to pursue a career in the Hairdressing Industry.
Entry requirements & Application
An interview and pre-entry assessment is required. You should be able to work with others, communicate with potential customers both verbally and in writing, follow health and safety instructions and have an acceptable level of personal presentation.
What will I learn?
As part of your course you will complete the following units in order to achieve the Diploma in Hairdressing at Level 1: Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector, Follow Health and Safety in the Salon, Work with Others in the Hair and Beauty Sector, Create a Hair and Beauty Image, Colour Hair Using Temporary Colour, Shampoo and Condition Hair, The Art of Dressing Hair, Salon Reception Duties, Create and Maintain Retail Displays in the Salon, Style Men's Hair, Style Women's Hair, Present a Professional Image in a Salon and Hair Plaiting.You will also complete the Welsh Baccalaureate. This study will comprise of: Wales, Europe and the World; Personal and Social Education; Individual Investigation; Team Enterprise and Work Related Education.In addition you will complete up to six Key Skills and Learndirect modules. You will also have the opportunity to take part in internal and external competitions. As part of the course you will be required to complete an industrial work placement.
Assessment
You will be required to produce an evidence-based portfolio; assessment will be via internal coursework and an external test. Your parent/guardian will be invited to a consultation evening to discuss your progress.
On Completion Achievement / Progression
On completion of this course, you will be able to progress onto the Diploma in Hairdressing at Level 2 or enter employment as a hairdressing salon assistant.
