Who is this course for?
The course is designed to provide an initial nationally recognised qualification for those working in or intending to work within the post-compulsory education and training sector (PcET), including untrained part-time FE/HE tutors, learning support workers, adult and community education tutors, youth work tutors, health professionals, industrial/commercial trainers including work based assessors and private trainers operating in any instructional capacity for a part of their working day.
Entry requirements & Application
You must hold a recognised qualification in your chosen subject and be able to demonstrate relevant industrial, professional or commercial experience . A minimum qualification of level 3 is required.
What will I learn?
The course provides a taster of such issues as the role of the tutor/trainer/instructor, managing the learning environment, writing aims and objectives, lesson planning, teaching/learning aids, communication, assessment and evaluation of learning.A practice teaching session of 20 minutes (termed microteach) is also included and this will form part of the course assessment.
Assessment
There are no end of course examinations. The course constitutes the first module of the PGCE/CERT Ed programme and as such assessment follows the code of practice laid down by the University of Wales, Newport (UWN). Assessment of the course is via the microteach supported by a commentary.
On Completion Achievement / Progression
The course may encourage you to undertake further study leading to the full PGCE or CERT Ed awards.
