The College offers a wide selection of courses at different levels, from Entry to University level courses. This page is to help you understand the levels of qualifications available at The College and to assist you in choosing the right course and level of study that will take into account your existing learning, time commitments and your future career or learning plans.
We are working to ensure that all our courses come under the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales (CQFW), endorsed by the Welsh Assembly Government. This means that any qualification within the Framework has been through a quality-assurance process to make sure it meets a set standard.
Many of our courses already fit within CQFW, with more courses making the change throughout the year. As a learner you will not see much change in the classroom or in the way you are taught. CQCFW qualifications are made up of units. Each unit measures your knowledge and understanding of, and skills relating to, a particular subject. These units will build up to complete your qualification, and the total number of units completed will determine the final grading / level of your qualification (award / certificate / diploma).
Qualification levels
The College offers courses at different levels. The level of qualification you undertake can be determined by your existing qualifications or experience, although for some courses such as hairdressing or construction you will be expected to start at Level 1 in order that you build up a detailed knowledge of the subject.
Each course in this guide will detail its Entry Requirements to help you determine what level course is suitable for you, or you can contact our admissions team on enquiries@ystrad-mynach.ac.uk phone
01443 810054.
The table below shows you the level of qualification and equivalent compared with other qualifications. You can find out more about the Credit and Qualification Framework for Wales by visiting their website
