Right Track - New Skills for School LeaversESF

As you get closer to leaving School there are numerous options for you to choose... You can go to school or college and study or get a job... But have you thought of doing both? Work based learning at The College Ystrad Mynach gives you the chance to learn a new skill alongside a job or work placement.

Right Track give you the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience in your chosen career pathway whilst gaining qualifications at Level 1 or above.  During the year course you will  split your time between College and work experience with a local employer.

What can I try out?

Right Track gives you a choice of career pathways to include, carpentry, brickwork, business and administration, customer service, retail, motor vehicle, childcare, sport and warehousing.

What else will I do at College?

When at College you will:

  • Develop your Maths and English Skills
  • Work on computers to improve your IT skills
  • Follow Key Skills in Problem Solving, Improving Own Learning and Working with Others
  • Work towards Essential Skills Wales Application of Number and Communication
  • Improve your Work Skills
  • Basic Health & Safety
  • First Aid
  • Team building exercises, motivational sessions
  • ESDGC (Education for Sustainable Development)
  • Enterprise
  • Trips and visits to areas of interest within individuak occupational areas

What else will I receive?

As well as valuable work experience and a vocational qualification you will also be entitled to apply for an EMA of £30 a week.

What's next?

After Right Track we would hope that you have a clearer idea of what job role you would like to follow.  We will help you make the choice for your next step.  It could be that you move on to a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship or follow a college course at levels 1, 2 & 3 in your chosen area.

How do I sign up?

To join Right Track you need to complete a college application form available online or from our admissions team on 01443 810054, enquiries@ystrad-mynach.ac.uk  Once we have received your application, we will invite you into College to attend a short interview and Maths and English assessment.  During this assessment you need to achieve a minimum Entry Level 3 in both areas.  If successful you will be given a specific start date to commence the programme.
