It is worth contacting The College’s business development school, who may already have a suitable employee for you who may have previous experience or have completed technical qualifications in your sector.  We will recommend these individuals for interview

The College has extensive experience of providing Apprenticeships in a range of sectors.  Contact the School of Business Development who will be able to visit your organisation and discussing training and funding options.

What qualifications will they achieve?

Modern Apprenticeships are available from Level 2 – 4.  Typically they will complete an NVQ, a technical certificate and Essential Skills.

  • Business Administration
  • Customer Service
  • Construction
  • Engineering

How much will I need to pay a new employee following a Modern Apprenticeship?

Qualifications are funded by The Welsh Assembly Government, therefore there are no training costs to the organisation, however you will need to pay apprenticeships in line with apprentice and minimum wage requirements.

Apprenticeships are available at three levels:

Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (Level 2)

They will work towards an NVQ Level 2 qualification in their chosen vocational area alongside Essential skills.  Typically the Apprentice will spend 4 days a week with their employer and one day a week at College.  They will be visited regularly by a work based assessor who will visit the workplace to monitor their progress, assess their skills and competencies and help them gather evidence for their NVQ portfolio.  The Foundation Modern Apprenticeship usually takes 2 years to complete.

Modern Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Modern Apprenticeships complete work based learning qualifications such as an NVQ Level 3, Essential Skills and a technical certificate relevant to their job.  They will attend College once a week.  In addition they will be assigned a work based learning assessor who will visit your workplace, assess your skills and competence and help you gather evidence for your NVQ portfolio.

After completing a Modern Apprenticeship at Level 3, they could move onto a Higher Education course at University or The College Ystrad Mynach.

Higher Apprenticeships

The Higher Apprenticeship is a work based programme for employed people working in a management role.  This programme provides opportunities for your staff to improve their skills and knowledge at NVQ Level 4.

The Modern Skills Diploma provides subsidised training that is specific to the employer’s industry sector, alongside essential Skills and a technical certificate.

Work Based Learning is part funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.
