The College Ystrad Mynach has become the first college in Wales to launch a dedicated website optimised for smart phones and tablet devices.
The new mobile site has been designed to capitalise on the increased usage of smart phones and tablets amongst young people.
As users expect quick and easy navigation to relevant information, the new mobile site displays a specially tailored version of the college’s full site.
The college had observed an increased usage of its website from mobile devices, eventually accounting for a quarter of overall visits to the page and recognised the requirement for an update.
In light of the ever increasing statistics concerning smartphone and tablet usage, the optimisation of the website is a significant step forward for the college.
The development allows students to visit the college’s site on the go, and to more easily access important information relating to their courses, wherever they are.
Matt Jarvis, Marketing and Web Officer for The College Ystrad Mynach, said:
“This development really will be beneficial to The College. Mobile web access at the touch of a button has seen significant growth recently, mainly due to the enormous rise in smartphone and tablet usage.”
Bryn Davies, Principal of The College Ystrad Mynach, said:
“Over the next five years, the amount of people using smartphones to access the internet will overtake those using their desktop, and we as an institution are ready for this development.
“We are constantly evaluating our digital services and seeking the more effective ways to communicate with our students and the public.
“It is imperative that, no matter where they are or when they need access, our students can connect with the college with ease and our new mobile-optimised site will certainly go far to achieve this.”
