The College Ystrad Mynach Donates Blood for the first time

Welsh Blood Service

Learners and staff at The College Ystrad Mynach recently taken time out of their busy schedules to donate blood with the Welsh Blood Service.

This is the first time that the Welsh Blood Service have come to The College, and they were overwhelmed with the demand on the day having to turn many people away on the day because of such high demand.  By the end of the day 88 people donated, 49 of which were first time donors and 8 people registered for bone marrow donations.  In future the Welsh Blood Service will visit the College twice a year for blood donation sessions.

The blood donation session was organised by Helena Vickery, Youth Worker, who is responsible for a programme of health and wellbeing activities held at The College.

The need for blood increases every year in Wales and the sooner people are attracted to the service, the better. Even after the learners complete their courses and leave College, they will continue to receive invitations so that they will be able to donate at a local centre.

To find out more about becoming a blood or bone marrow donor, or to see where donations are taking place near you, log-on to http://www.welsh-blood.org.uk/
