Who is this course for?
A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification. A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A*-C and is a full-time course.
Entry requirements & Application
You will normally need to have at least one of the following: A BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject, 4 GCSEs at grades D-G (one must be grade D English), related work experience, other related level 1 or 2 qualifications.
What will I learn?
The course consists of 8 units - 2 core units and 6 specialist units. All students take the 2 core units, which are Using IT to Present Information and Introduction to Computer Systems. Students also take 6 specialist units, which are Database Software, Spreadsheet Software, Mobile Communications, ICT Security, Digital Graphics and Website Development.Students will be given the opportunity to study the Welsh Baccalaurette alongside the BTEC qualification. In addition you will complete up to 6 key skills and learn direct modules.
Assessment
You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
On Completion Achievement / Progression
A BTEC First Diploma prepares you for employment. With further training or study, students go into careers such as End User Support Technician, Trainee IT Support Officer or Technician. A BTEC First Diploma provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners and other National level and A' level courses.
