LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE IN SPORT AND LEISURE WELSH BACCALAUREATE Printer Friendly

Who is this course for?

This is a one-year course. It is suitable if you wish to pursue a career in the sport and leisure Industry. You should be able to work with others, communicate with potential customers both verbally and in writing, follow health and safety instructions and have an acceptable level of personal presentation.

Entry requirements & Application

An interview and a satisfactory reference are required. A CRB check will be required to gain an industrial work placement. To apply you must complete an application form. When we receive your application, you will be invited into the College on a particular date for an informal interview and an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy.

What will I learn?

As part of your course, you must complete five core and two optional units. Core Units: 101 Introduction to the Sport & Leisure Industry; 102 Introduction to Working with Customers & Colleagues in the Sport & Leisure Industry; 103 Follow Safe Working Practices in the Sport & Leisure Industry; 104 Introduction to Health, Lifestyle & the Human Body;105 Assist in the Planning, Delivery & Evaluation of Sport & Leisure Activities. Optional Units: 106 Introduction to Sports; 108 Introduction to Exercise & Fitness.The Welsh Baccalaureate (or Welsh Bac) is a nationally recognised qualification aimed at improving the skills that employers and universities are looking for. Whilst completing your main course you will also study Wales, Europe, the World, Work Related Education and Personal and Social Education.Additionally, you will study key skills in Communication, Application of Number, Information Technology, Working with Others and Improving Your Own Learning. You will also have the opportunity to take additional courses in Sports Coaching, National Pool Life Guard, Emergency First Aid and health and safety qualifications. Please note that an additional fee is payable for these courses

Assessment

To gain the Certificate in Sport and Leisure at Level 1 you must complete internal & external assessments. Assessment will cover practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written questions. You will be required to sit a short examination at the end of the course.

On Completion Achievement / Progression

On successful completion of this course,ou may progress onto the BTEC First Diploma in Sport course, you may be able to enter employment as a sports coach, health and fitness instructor or leisure centre attendant.
